FIRE LINKS

It is hoped to expand this links page to include fire related web sites from all over the world; the web-master would be very pleased to learn of interesting sites so that they can be contacted and then added to the list. In the meantime the following expanding sites are well worth a visit. Following the list is a brief description of each site - click on either name to gain access.

South West Fire Review

Operated by Station Officer Gary Chapman of Launceston Fire Station in Cornwall, UK, this comprehensive site contains a mine of information and pictures from the UK and overseas. His own fire station’s web pages are complemented by photo galleries which include superb archive pictures from the late Roy Yeoman collection. Gary is the South West Area Secretary for the Fire Brigade Society.

The Fire Brigade Society

The Fire Brigade Society is the premier organisation for fire service enthusiasts and it has members worldwide. Its website gives details on how to join the FBS as well as pictures and information on a number of fire related subjects. Webmaster Malcolm Cook has put together a varied site, which is constantly updated, and anyone with an interest in the Fire Service, whether historical or present day, will find that joining the FBS is of great benefit to them.

The Fire Service Preservation Group

For anyone who owns or operates a preserved fire appliance or who has an interest in securing our fire service heritage for future generations, the Fire Service Preservation Group is the main UK organisation to join. The FSPG website gives full details about the group, the benefits of being a member, services available to members and how to join (complete with membership form). There is also a list of UK events where preserved fire appliances will be displayed.

Firetrack 2000 XL

Andy Anderson is a very accomplished web site operator and this is apparent in the style of his site which is operated alongside his original Firetrack site. Andy is a serving leading firefighter with the Dumfries and Galloway Fire Brigade in Scotland; he calls his site a “Fire Enthusiast’s interactive site“ and there is no doubt that it has a vast array of pictures and information to suit all tastes. Modern and preserved machines get excellent coverage and there are plenty of news and views for every fire appliance enthusiast.

Fire Appliance Enthusiast

An apt name for a site operated by a very keen fire appliance enthusiast - Brian Myall from Norfolk, UK. A Fire Brigade Society member, Brian is interested in all aspects of the fire service and this is clear from his own web site. His favourite fire appliances come from the Dennis stable and his pages include pictures of Dennis machines plus a “potted“ history of the make. East Anglia fire stations and the London Fire Brigade Museum are also included in this enjoyable site.

Andrew Henry's Emergency Vehicle Photos

Andrew Henry has travelled worldwide photographing all kinds of emergency vehicles, especially fire appliances, and his website contains some highly interesting images. Whilst it is appreciated that one of the principal objectives of the site is to advise enthusiasts about the photographs and slides which he can supply, Andrew has picked out some superb pictures for his pages which cover the UK, Europe, Australia, India, South Africa, the USA and the Far East. Andrew is renowned for his photographic expertise and this is aptly illustrated by his website.

Ken Reid's Transport Photos

Ken Reid MBE is a lifelong fire brigade enthusiast having served for more than 32 years with the Fife Fire and Rescue Service. During this time he has gathered together a huge collection of good quality fire service photographs, copies of which are available for sale. But although fire appliances, police vehicles and ambulances form the bulk of the collection, pictures of other varied vehicles including fairground, heavy haulage, trams, circus, traction engines, recovery vehicles and cranes are available from the 'Reid' stable.

Kevin Hale's Website

Kev's website contains such diverse subjects as amateur radio, computing and music and his Fire Pages will be of great interest to every fire historian and enthusiast. They contain a wealth of information from the prewar and National Fire Service era as well as full details about all the Cornwall County Fire Brigade's Austin Loadstars and Gipsies. Kev, a Senior Fire Control operator with the Devon Fire and Rescue Service, is a member of the Fire Brigade Society and the Fire Service Preservation Group and he is also in the process of restoring a pair of Austin Gipsy L4Ps, his family having owned a Bedford TJ / HCB-Angus WrL for many years.

Karl Downton's DA Rescue

Karl Downton is a wholetime (career) firefighter with the Oxfordshire Fire Service and he is based at Kidlington where the brigade's Volvo heavy rescue tender is on the run. This has enhanced his considerable interest in this type of fire appliance and his website is dedicated to "all things heavy rescue." Naturally a considerable chunk of the site is American orientated and there are some excellent links to US rescue companies. The UK page contains images of heavy rescues from several county brigades many of the pictures supplied by FAI's FireFotos collection. There is also a page dedicated to Kentland Volunteer Fire Department in Maryland, USA.

Inangahua Junction Volunteer Rural Fire Force

This is an interesting site belonging to the Inangahua Junction Volunteer Rural Fire Force in New Zealand's South Island. It is part of the West Coast Rural District Fire Department and the brigade has been in operation since 1976. There are history and appliance details on the site.
