GUYANA FIRE SERVICE
(specials)
The project for the Guyana
Fire Service included provision for the supply of four
special fire appliances which were paid for by UK
government aid funding. Fire-Aid International sourced
two turntable ladders, a hose layer and a breathing
apparatus tender which were shipped, from the Port of
Felixstowe to Georgetown, during 1993 and 1994. This is
an ongoing project.

1985 Dennis
F125 / G & T Fire Attack / Merryweather 100'
turntable ladder B925 KWM which was purchased from the
Merseyside Fire Brigade in 1993 - it had served at High
Park Street, Liverpool. A similar 1984 appliance (A49
HKC) was also purchased from Merseyside (ex Conleach
Road) at the same time - both appliances carried
re-chassied ladders dating from the 1960s. These were the
first aerial fire appliances in Guyana and instruction
courses were carried out in Georgetown by Assistant
Divisional Officer Bruce Hoad of the East Sussex Fire
Brigade. Fire-Aid International arranged transportation
from Liverpool to Georgetown and this appliance is
pictured at the Thompson Street Fire Station, Greater
Manchester after high visibility striping had been
applied by Fire-Aid International's Fleet Manager Chris
Rowley. The two appliances were stationed at Georgetown
Central registered PEE 1992 & 1993.

1986 Leyland Roadrunner 6-12 / Spectra breathing
apparatus tender C523 YRU which was purchased from the
Dorset Fire Brigade in 1994. A generator was donated by
Hamworthy Engineering of Poole and Gloucester with
Fire-Aid International carrying out internal alterations
before it was shipped to Guyana. The appliance served at
Hamworthy and Weymouth and went on the run at Georgetown
Central.

1989 AWD TL8-14 / West Yorkshire Fire Service hose layer
G349 FCP purchased from the brigade in 1993 - it carries
a 1975 brigade built body; the appliance was fully stowed
including 86 lengths of hose. Fire-Aid International made
the arrangements for transportation from Birkenshaw to
Georgetown. It served at Elland and went on the run at
Georgetown Central registered PEE 2605.
